Spicer Orchards Farm Market

Spicer Orchards Farm Market

The Spicer family has been growing fruit in southeastern Michigan for five generations. The first Spicer Orchards Farm Market was near Detroit and fruit was taken by horse and wagon downtown. The first market that we have pictures of was located near the corner of Grand River road and Novi road. We have put together a collection of photos taken in the 1950s of our first market in Novi. We hope you enjoy this part of our family heritage.

Spicer’s Carriage House Cellars was established in 2009 by the Spicer and Cartwright family.  The winery is located inside the farm market at Spicer Orchards.  This offers a romantic setting with the trees of the apple orchard. Summer, Fall, or Winter the aura of the winery changes with the seasons of feeling of the orchard.  You can walk in the vineyard behind the market or view our distillery along with the cider press.  Taste wine by the glass while enjoying a lunch on the patio connecting with the beauty of your surroundings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What forms of payment are accepted?
We appreciate cash as it helps us keep our costs down.  We do accept most forms of credit and debit cards including Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.  In the fall, we do have vendors who only accept cash.  There are also areas of the farm where it is often easier to use cash, such as the pumpkin patch.

What is available on the weekends and what does it cost?
Wagon rides to the orchard start at 9 am and the last wagon goes out at 5:30.  The market closes at 7. Admission to the farm playground is $2 per child, adults are free, children 2 and under are free. There are many additional vendors who charge a separate price. These include train ride, bounce houses, zip line, sand art, face painting, pony rides and more.  These vendors are usually only available on the weekends in September and October, depending on the weather. The corn maze is $6 per person.

Do I need to bring containers to pick with?
No, we have containers for you to pick with.  Depending on the fruit, we have bags or boxes to use.   The only exception is with Strawberries. We have a very sturdy 6 qt (8-12 lbs) container for you to pick with that costs 50 cents.

What should I consider bringing with me to help me with my trip?
Sunscreen is always a good idea as most trips to the farm involve being outside.  Sometimes during the hot summer days, mosquito spray could also be helpful, but they are generally not a problem.  It may also be a good idea to have some hand sanitizer handy. We have hand sanitizer located around the farm playground, but if you are out and about the farm it may not always be easy to wash up.

Are there any allergens on the farm?
The bakery does use peanuts when making caramel apples.  Some of our bakery products use peanuts or walnuts.  Bees are attracted to the sweetness of apples.  Use caution around trash receptacles.  We do our best to prevent bee stings, but if it does happen visit the donut room for a bag of ice.

What type of oil are the donuts fried in?
We use vegetable oil for our donuts.  There are eggs and milk in donuts.  A list of ingredients can be found on the side of donut bags.

Are pets allowed at the farm?

We kindly request that you refrain from bringing pets to the orchard.  Thank you.
